The Company
Karve Energy Inc. is a private oil and natural gas exploration and production company focused on the Viking light oil play in east central Alberta. Founded in 2014 and headquartered in Calgary, Karve operates across a growing portfolio of wellsites in the Greater Provost area, with an active capital program and a dedicated focus on responsible operations, environmental stewardship, and meeting its asset retirement obligations on schedule.
With a decommissioning and reclamation liability of approximately $27.3 million CAD as of late 2025, Karve's sustainability function carries significant responsibility for managing remediation spend, coordinating field consultants, and keeping projects on track against mandatory regulatory timelines.

The Challenge
Before Matidor, Karve's sustainability team was using SiteView alongside spreadsheets to manage field projects and site data. The problem was that the data was rarely consistent or up to date. Spreadsheets required constant manual updates from the field, and the team could not trust what they were looking at.
The operational impact was real: the team was spending significant time chasing information rather than acting on it. With a growing portfolio of sites at various stages of remediation and reclamation, and with mandatory spend obligations that require budgets to be neither too high nor too low, the cost of unreliable data was not just operational — it was financial.
The core problem was organization. Keeping everything organized across multiple sites, multiple consultants, and multiple stages of the rem/rec lifecycle was a daily challenge that the existing toolset could not solve.
Why Matidor
Matidor's oil and gas platform was built for exactly this use case: multi-site remediation and reclamation programs where coordinators need live budget visibility, consultant accountability, and a complete site history in one place. The platform replaced fragmented spreadsheets and inconsistent SiteView data with a single source of truth the whole team could rely on.
The Solution in Action
Portfolio and Project Management
Every site in the rem/rec stage is now entered into Matidor, along with a complete record of what has been done and what stage of reclamation it currently sits at. The team can refer to any site and immediately see all associated pictures, files, and activity history in one place.
This replaced the previous workflow of digging through files or visiting sites multiple times just to confirm current status. Day-to-day coordination with consultants is now visible and manageable through Matidor's project management tools, and the team can see activity as it happens rather than waiting for updates to be compiled and sent.

Budget and Cost Control
Budget tracking is now a live, daily process. Consultants are expected to enter costs into Matidor each day. The sustainability team pulls costs daily to monitor how close each project is to its budget — which is critical given the mandatory spend obligations Karve operates under.
Before Matidor, this level of oversight required spreadsheets and constant manual updates from the field. The process was reactive. Now it is proactive.
A Real Decision That Saved the Program
The clearest example of Matidor's budget visibility paying off came during a remediation season when Karve had planned to complete eight remediations. As costs on one of those remediations climbed higher than expected, the team was able to see the trend in real time through Matidor and made the decision to cancel almost all remaining rems for the year, reallocating spend before the situation became unmanageable.
This kind of decision requires data that is current, visible, and trustworthy. Spreadsheets and after-the-fact field updates cannot support that level of real-time response. Matidor could.

Results and Impact

Since adopting Matidor, Karve's sustainability team has achieved measurable improvements across their remediation and reclamation program:
- Budget managed within 1% — a direct result of daily cost tracking and real-time consultant data entry
- Faster, better decisions — real-time spend visibility allows the team to pivot on active programs before overruns occur
- Trusted data — the team no longer loses time verifying information or visiting sites to confirm status
- Stronger consultant coordination — consultants enter data daily, keeping the office view current without manual chasing
